We were lucky some years agoto see hundreds of pelicans
take off from a lake in Queensland, find a thermal and circle
endlessly as they gained height until they were almost out of
sight.
Then they leftfor the long
flight to Lake Eyre in South Australia -full for the first time
in years.
Pelicans - one of the largest Australian birds - live on fish
which they scoop up in their huge bills.
